The theme of the 2012 Governor’s Education Summit™ was “Achieving: Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere Any Pace”.
Attendees were fortunate to hear from Lieutenant. Governor Brian Calley who spoke on the importance of involving parents in a child’s education and also, on teachers going the extra mile to ensure the students have what they need to succeed in school.
Deborah Loewenberg Ball, Dean of the School of Education at the University of Michigan and Chair of the Council for Educator Effectiveness, spoke at the Summit, encouraging better teacher training and support of common core standards.
This year, the State Board of Education was represented two members of the leadership team, John Austin, President, and Nancy Danhof, Secretary, whose message about a need for change was shared.
The breakout sessions engaged the audience with examples of innovation and highlighted those educators who are Achieving: Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere and Any Pace. All breakout session descriptions can be viewed under the Breakout Sessions tab and many presenter materials can be located by following the “More Information” under the session.
The Governor’s Education Summit™ is co-hosted annually by the Education Alliance of Michigan, the Michigan Department of Education and the Michigan Foundation for Education Leadership.
