When a baby is born a Coach makes a home visit welcoming the baby. Future visits are scheduled and families are connected to community resources. Families are then connected to Toddler Playgroups, where the parent and child learn together. Preschool age children are connected to preschools and scholarships are provided where needed. HighScope training and coached support is supported in the community - EVERY child's ready for school and EVERY school's ready for every child.

Great Lakes Bay Region-A story of successful collaboration

Sparking Broadband Use in the Eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan

The Eastern Upper Peninsula School District is linking K-12 students to their futures by establishing a seamless, web-based learning environment between school, home and the community. This project has allowed over 4000 students to use netbooks, year round, from seemingly anywhere to enhance their education and enhance broadband usage across the region.  e an overview of the Broadband Technology Opportunity Program, through NTIA, currently underway in the Eastern UP. 

A short overview of the federal grant opportunities that are being leveraged in the state will be provided.  Merit will do an overview of their statewide infrastructure project REACH-3MC, and discuss the possibilities that this project brings to educators around the state. Merit will provide stories about how some of our education members are currently utilizing their fiber infrastructure to collaborate with others in the state.

A partnership has been formed to promote the teaching of innovation and problem solving throughout grades 6-12 in engineering and biomedical offerings.  The partners include: the Michigan Department of Education, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Eastern Michigan University, and Lawrence Technological University with several additional partners to be named.  This presentation will define and present criteria for assessing STEM programs, describe how the selected program addresses these criteria, and describe the operation of the partnership.
